Milí priatelia,

teší ma, že sa znovu stretávame na našom horsko-filmovom sviatku, dvadsiatom ôsmom ročníku Medzinárodného festivalu horských filmov v Poprade, ktorý sa koná v roku, keď celý svet bojuje proti pandémii. Zatvorili sa hranice a ľudia na chvíľu zabudli na konzumný spôsob života, začali sa venovať rodine a sami sebe. V tom to bolo pozitívne. Horšie boli obmedzenia  v cestovaní. S obavami sme rozposielali prihlášky a čakali, či to ovplyvní aj filmárske remeslo. Nakoniec sme boli potešení, koľko filmov sa nám do súťaže prihlásilo.

Opäť sme mali ťažkú úlohu pri výbere súťažných titulov. Sme radi, že tie najlepšie filmy vám môžeme predstaviť na našom festivale. Diela renomovaných filmárov a režisérov, ale aj nováčikov. A v tom je čaro festivalu: znovu vám môžeme ponúknuť mozaiku od adrenalínových záberov po cestovateľské príbehy, od horolezeckých extrémov až po filmy o živote ľudí,  ktorí v prírode trávia svoju každodennosť. Nevšedné výkony hlavných aktérov filmov sú obdivuhodné a nám ostáva už len s úctou vzhliadať k ľudskému úsiliu a nezlomnej vôli prekonávať prekážky.

Každý ročník festivalu pred nás stavia nové ciele a výzvy. Dúfame, že spoločnými silami toto ťažké obdobie zvládneme a na prekonávanie ostanú v budúcnosti iba výzvy športové.

Užime si spolu peknú jeseň – aj pred filmovým plátnom.

Dear friends,

I am glad that we are meeting again at our mountain film festivities – and the 28^th anniversary of the International Mountain Film Festival in Poprad, in a year when all the world is fighting  a pandemic. The national borders were closed and people forgot for a time about their consumerist ways of life and turned their attention to their families and themselves. That was the positive part. But restrictions on travelling were on the other side of the story. We sent out our application forms with a lot of concern and waited to see if the filmmaking industry had been affected too. In the end, we were happy to receive very many entries.

The pre-selection was a tough task once again. And we are glad that we can offer you the best films, including works from both renowned filmmakers and newcomers. That is the fascinating part of the festival: we can offer you once again a variety of experiences – from an adrenaline rush to travellers’ stories, from extreme climbing to everyday life in nature. The exceptional performance of protagonists is noteworthy and all we can do is to respectfully admire human endeavour and indomitable will to overcome obstacles.

Every edition of the festival comes with new goals and challenges. Let’s hope that we will overcome these difficult times by means of joint efforts and that the only challenges left for the future will be those in sports.

Let’s enjoy a beautiful autumn together – in front of the film screen as well.
