VANESSA O´BRIEN
Britsko-americká horolezkyňa, výskumníčka, aquanautka, astronautka a spisovateľka so slovenskými koreňmi. Je držiteľkou šiestich Guinnessových svetových rekordov. Je prvou ženou, ktorá okrem letu do vesmíru v rámci projektu NS-22 spoločnosti Blue Origin, dosiahla aj najextrémnejšie hranice na suchu i na mori. Je prvou ženou, ktorá stála na vrchole Mount Everestu (8 848 m) a zostúpila tiež na dno Mariánskej priekopy (Challengerská hlbočina –
10 925 m pod hladinou mora). Okrem Everestu sa jej ako prvej Američanke podarilo vystúpiť na K2 a keďže má tiež britské občianstvo, stala sa zároveň prvou Britkou, ktorá z vrcholu K2 bezpečne zostúpila do základného tábora. Okrem toho vystúpila aj na osemtisícovky Čo Oju a Manaslu. Korunu Zeme – najvyššie vrcholy všetkých kontinentov sa jej podarilo skompletizovať za rekordných 295 dní. Keďže vystúpila aj na Chimborazo (6 263 m), stala sa prvou ženou, ktorá dosiahla najbližší í najvzdialenejší bod od stredu Zeme. Stála tiež na obidvoch póloch a je tak prvou ženou, ktorej sa podarilo úspešne dokončiť Four Poles Challenge (Everest, Challengerskú hlbočinu, južný i severný pól). Je členkou Kráľovskej geografickej spoločnosti a čestnou členkou dozornej rady SES (Scientific Exploration Society). Je aktívnou členkou mnohých ďalších vedeckých a humanitárnych organizácií a za svoju prácu získala viacero ocenení.

She is the first woman who, in addition to flying into space as part of Blue Origin’s NS-22 project, has reached the most extreme limits on land and at sea. She is the first woman who stood atop Mt. Everest (8,848 m) and descended to the bottom of the Mariana Trench (Challenger Deep – 10,925 m below sea level).
Vanessa accomplished a remarkable feat by climbing K2, in addition to Everest. As the first American to climb K2, she also became the first British woman to safely descend from the summit of K2 to the base camp, given her British citizenship. Moreover, she also successfully climbed Cho Oyu and Manaslu, both at an altitude over 8,000 metres.
She completed the Crown of the Earth – the highest peaks of all continents – in just 295 days, setting a new record. Furthermore, she also climbed Chimborazo, which stands at 6,263 metres, and became the first woman to reach both the closest and farthest points from the centre of the Earth. Vanessa also stood on both the South and North Poles as well as Everest and the Challenger Trough, making her the first woman to complete the Four Poles Challenge.
She is a member of the Royal Geographical Society and an honorary member of the SES (Scientific Exploration Society) Supervisory Board. She is an active member of many other scientific and humanitarian organizations and has received several awards for her work.
