Tomáš Hulík

Born in 1976, Tomáš Hulík is a nature lover, traveller, photographer, cameraman, producer and director. He studied environmental science at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava, where he founded the student natural-science organisation LENS.
Tomáš has participated in scientific, photographic and film expeditions in Italy and Tunisia, the Russian Far East, Sakhalin Island, Borneo, Indonesia, South Korea, Kenya, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Turkey. He lectured at the World Zoological Congress and published on the subject of beaver biology.
In 2021 and 2022 he served as Deputy Operations Manager and was entrusted with the leadership of Bratislava zoo. He then worked at Prague zoo on the Przewalski’s horse reintroduction project in Kazakhstan and later served as Director of the National Zoo in Bojnice, Slovakia.
He has directed or contributed to the production of numerous successful documentary films—Hulík and the Beavers; High Tatras – Wilderness Frozen in Time; Return of the Lynx; Journeys Through Slovakia; Wild Slovakia; King of the Skies – The Golden Eagle, and others—which have been broadcast by renowned international networks such as ORF, ZDF, ARTE and Discovery Channel. He is currently working on the ambitious 12-part series Wild Return, travelling the world in search of rare and endangered animal species.
In his photography he focuses predominantly on nature and wildlife, though he also undertakes reportage assignments (for example, the 2005 tsunami in Banda Aceh, Sumatra). His work appears in prestigious magazines including National Geographic, GEO and Universum, as well as in many other publications in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He regularly exhibits his photographs at shows across Slovakia and is a member of the Association of Professional Photographers of the Slovak Republic.
He has received numerous awards for his work to date.
